Describe Yourself:I work part-time as a librarian in the wonderful little town of Woodstock, VT. Most days, the folks coming to the desk are there to see what color my hair is for the day, and what "costume" I'm wearing. Suffice it to say, I am not the dreary "shushing" kind of librarian. I'm the kind with blue hair, purple sneakers, studded belt, and a collection of music CDs I play on the library mezzanine to while away quiet Saturdays at work. I spend my off-time writing, playing with various forms of digital art, reading (favorites: fantasy, sci-fi, manga), watching way too much Netflix and YouTube, doing crafts, listening to music of all stripes, occasionally playing my own music, and belly dancing, and nearly-passing-out-but-loving the new phenomenon in town, Zumba (Latin dance aerobics). I love to dance, listen to live music, hike and kayak in beautiful places, travel (when I have the time and $), and laugh uproariously at funny stuff... I'm looking for some stimulating companions on Gather to keep me company in the wee hours.

Favorite Music, Artists, Genres:
-
Favorite Books, Writers, Genres:love good sci-fi, fantasy, mysteries, paranormal, historical (esp. medieval era) but I'll read just about anything if it's good. As for non-fiction, I like geology, astronomy, cosmology, environmental topics (esp. sustainable building and living); and I have recently become a manga addict!, There are so many!! I really like a lot of kid's/YA authors. My current obsession is Jacqueline Carey...her books are just so wonderfully sexy and inventive!
-
Favorite Movies, Actors, Genres:
-
Favorite TV Shows, Actors:I used to be all self-righteous about not owning a TV that actually got programs. But I've always been a movie junkie. Enter Netflix: now I technically DO watch television programs, so I can't claim to not watch TV. I watch a ton of BBC programs (Shameless is my current fave.) As for American programs, I've been enjoying Dexter, Gilmore Girls, and Deadwood. And I am addicted to anime...not the cute Pokemon style programs, but the dark, demonic, post-apocalyptic ones.
-
Interests and Activities:mythology (Celtic, Native American, Classical); sustainable living; national parks; science (especially biology, geology, planetary geology, environmental science, ecology, limnology, botany, cosmology/astrophysics); wilderness and survival skills; herbology, writing, digital and studio art, playing wind instruments, hiking, kayaking, belly dancing

I've worked as a national park ranger; environmental educator; webmaster; publications specialist; limnological researcher (vertical migration in zooplankton...sounds dull, I know, but it was fun - I spent a lot of time on lakes in the middle of the night and skinny dipping with other researchers); biotechnician/terrestrial mollusk specialist (I counted dead snails while hanging precariously from steep mountain gullies); newspaper design/production/editing; librarian; freelance writer; expert procrastinator

Other Affiliations:nominated member of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society and winner of Technical Analysis Corporation President's Award for best exemplifying the ideal of the "Whole Person" (nice to know one is a whole person...); Phi Beta Kappa (gee, once upon a time I must've been smart - ha!); MPLA (Monty Python Lovers Anonymous - for those recovering from an embarrassing Monty Python obsession which causes them to quote MP at inopportune times), Sigma Xi, Sierra Club, Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Coalition of National Park Service Retirees

Just a few hours later, I have already gotten an answer to the inquiry I posted at Davesgarden.com and I wanted to thank you again. My plant is called Callisia Fragrans and now I can do further research on it!

Just wanted to thank you for your comment on my "Mystery Plant" post, pointing me in the direction of Dave's Garden a few days ago. I was able to post it there and hopefully will be able to get some help. I really appreciate the link!
